The name of a whole region rather than a single micro-zone: the Alazani and Iori basins in south-eastern Georgia. Vineyards lie at 200–750 m. Six varieties are allowed — Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Mtsvane Kakhuri, Kisi, Khikhvi and Cabernet Sauvignon; the wines are white and red, dry or semi-dry.

Kakheti (Kakhuri) is a broad regional PDO covering Georgia's main eastern wine region, allowing several styles — dry white, amber (qvevri), rosé and red — from grapes such as Rkatsiteli, Kakhuri Mtsvane and Saperavi. As a wide regional appellation its supply broadly matches the zone and it carries no notable authenticity concern; the wine should come from the registered Kakheti zone.
