Wine Kakheti

A winery in Telavi built on the legacy of Georgia's Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking, founded in 1921 to collect and study the country's native grape varieties; the label carries the institute's building and the words «since 1921». The plant stands next to the historic institute grounds and is fitted with European and American equipment: a bottling line rated at up to 10 million bottles a year and a 360 kW solar roof. Grapes come from the company's own vineyards — up to 200 hectares in the Gurjaani, Akhmeta and Telavi districts, planted with Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Kakhuri Mtsvane, Kisi and Khikhvi using vines from the Rauscedo nursery in Italy. The range covers dry varietal wines and the appellations Tsinandali, Mukuzani and Kindzmarauli, semi-sweet Alazani Valley and Pirosmani, and the Vivi line of qvevri and amber wines. The company sells online in Georgia and through its own office in Philadelphia in the United States; founder and director — Levan Zilfimiani.
