Rtvelisi

A Kakhetian company whose winery stands in the village of Shalauri near Telavi, where vineyards sit between 550 and 880 metres above sea level. It was founded by friends who had grown grapes and made wine in Kakheti for years; their vineyards passed to the company at its founding, and it has been buying and planting more ever since. Qvevri wine is still made in a family cellar restored from 1920. Own vineyards cover 250 hectares in Kakhetian micro-zones and in more traditional vineyard areas, planted with Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Kisi, Kakhuri Mtsvane and other Georgian varieties. The range runs from appellation and varietal wines to qvevri and sparkling wines, brandy and chacha; the winemaking team is led by Giorgi Babunidze.
