Tavkveri

Tavkveri is a red variety from Kartli, also grown in Kakheti; its name, 'hammer-head', refers to the flattened top of the berry. Its flowers are functionally female, so it has to be planted among other varieties, such as Chinuri or Goruli Mtsvane, to be pollinated. It gives light, fruity reds and rosés, made both in qvevri and in the European way, and is at its best as a young wine.
