Buza

Buza (also Sabuze, Buzis Kurdzeni) is an indigenous red variety from Kartli. It ripens earlier than its Kartli neighbours: the thin skin cracks, juice runs and flies gather on the bunches, which gave the grape its name — buzi is Georgian for fly. Berries are small to medium and dark blue, the vine is of medium vigour and ripens at the end of September at about 20.5% sugar. It makes dry red table wine and is also eaten fresh; in Kartli it is blended with Shavkapito and Danakharuli.
