Asuretuli Shala

Asuretuli Shala is another name for Asuretuli Shavi, a dark-berried variety from Kvemo Kartli named after the village of Asureti; VIVC lists Shala among its synonyms. According to Georgian ampelographers it was found growing wild in the forest near Asureti by a German colonist named Schal, which is why local Germans called it Schaltraube. Its flowers are female, so it needs other varieties nearby for pollination; it gives a light red dry wine with lively acidity.
